In the midst of an unpredictable humanitarian crisis in 2015, start-up founder Eleni Atsikbasis pitched her idea for Healing Lesvos as part of the Dutch Embassy’s incubator activity 'Startup Safari' at Orange Grove, in Athens.
Her vision for this powerful initiative was clear – to bring together creatives, entrepreneurs, design thinkers and the youth from across the globe to find sustainable solutions. By working together, this community’s key aim is to reboot, rebuild and rethink Lesvos, and restore the ongoing perception of the island.
Eleni is a producer with wide ranging experience in feature and documentary film production. She was in Australia before moving to Athens where she founded indie company Phos in 2000. Eleni has worked with filmmakers, broadcasters (incl. BBC, HBO, PBS and History Channel) and partner companies from more than 15 countries. She is a graduate of EAVE and Discovery Campus Masterschool. In 2009 Eleni founded Birds Bay, a boutique holiday destination accommodation on the island of Lesvos.

Digital Nomads Lesvos (DNL)
A co-living/co-working initiative that attracts digital nomads from all over the world, like Hacker Paradise, a remote work and travel program that visited with an entire group in 2018.

UC Berkeley
Healing Lesvos partners up with the University of California, Berkeley. As part of the Healing Lesvos initiative, The Sutardja Centre for Entrepreneurship & Technology (SCET) created a Challenge Lab class in 2016.

New village school
The New Village School (NVS) is an avant-garde Bay Area K - 12 independent school in Sausalito, California. NVS partners up with Healing Lesvos for the Blue Heart project and events like World Oceans Day.
